The magnificent human body has been designed to be nourished simply by eating food. But nowadays, finding “food worth eating” has become a complex task and in some cities nearly impossible as the quality of our food spirals lower and lower with each passing year. So altered is our food, from toxic chemicals to gene splicing, it is hard to believe it is able to grow at all. As we eat this devastated food, we eventually devastate our own health.

In the early 1970’s, a U.S. government study found that the mineral levels of our food was as much as 50% lower than when tested in 1950. In 1986 the FDA released a study that measured the total number of pesticide/chemical residues in samples of food. Here are a few typical examples of the stunning levels of toxins they found in vegetables and fruits: broccoli-45; potatoes-96; tomatoes-50; celery-78; apples-80; peaches-97; grapes-63; raisins-110. No wonder that chronic diseases such as cancer are rising at such rapid rates when you consider that the EPA has said that exposure to pesticides is a top risk factor in cancer.

To further insult our food supply, splicing bacterial and viral genes into our God-given food seeds has created new breeds of “Frankenfood”-or GMO’s-genetically modified foods. Current estimates are that 70% of the products on our grocery store shelves contain ingredients which have been genetically altered.

If you do not have enough critical nutrients, your body can’t fight the incoming toxic barrage. Without nutrient power, your body has no choice but to try to store the toxins in your organs or body tissue. This is how the over-weight gets more over-weight and the tired get more tired-and more toxic. The keen observer has come to realize that lowered amounts of vital nutrients translate into exactly what you don’t want: rapid aging, feeling tired, poor memory, headaches, arthritis, diabetes, asthma and chronic disease. Vitamins originate mainly in plants. Each vitamin has a specific action and function and one vitamin cannot replace another. Some people believe that your body can’t tell whether a vitamin came from an organically grown food or the chemist’s lab, but for best activity, vitamins interact with cofactors and other nutrients. This is especially true of “ascorbic acid”, the synthetic form of vitamin C.
